Staying healthy when buying or selling a home in 2021

Just because the country is in turmoil over the Corona virus doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t need to buy or sell a home.

So how can you protect yourself?

You’ve heard all the precautions about hand-washing and using hand gels and wipes. Apply that to looking at homes or having your home shown.

If you’re a seller, disinfect your lock box and your door knobs every time they’re used. Keep disinfecting gel or hand wipes at your door and ask everyone entering to use them. Alternately, you can provide disposable gloves, and a waste basket at the door for disposal as visitors leave.

If you have small children who play on your floors, you may also want to provide paper booties for visitors to wear over their shoes.

If you’re a buyer or a buyer’s agent, the same would apply. Use wipes or gels upon entering and leaving a house. Grasp the doorknob with one of the wipes when you enter. If you have small children, you may want to disinfect the soles of your shoes before entering your own home, whether you’ve been looking at homes or not.

And of course, if you’re feeling ill or coughing, don’t show your home or go looking at homes. Stay home, drink plenty of fluids, eat nutritious meals, and get plenty of rest. Then follow any other steps your doctor recommends.

Because some people will be afraid to venture out at all, there may be less competition on both sides. That means this may be the perfect time for you to buy or sell.
